The League was created primarily by the goddess Eutalia with the assistance of Iacchia and Kerotius. This is not to imply that the concept sprung into existence, fully formed, as did the Temple of Mists. The three dieties convened in private before presenting the first of many proposals before their brothers and sisters.

Auxus saw no need for any plan or system for the mortals to solve their differences, “If your favored are not strong enough to stand without you, then the failing is yours; the weak have no place in our World.”

Delpheria nodded briefly and considered the blatant challenge thrown before her, but ultimately she knew that her brother’s strategy would not allow mankind to learn from their failings and grow because of them. Orolia told the assembled gods that an action such as Auxis proposed would only further destroy the World; fear and greed would spread and nothing would remain for the Creator.

And so it went, just as it always had. One would propose an idea and others would add something or take something else away. Ultimately, Eutalia’s basic concepts were adopted, with concessions made by and for each god’s favored region. – Heriax, at the gates.

The Veridion League was created only to serve as a forum for the independent regions to rebuild the World devastated by over 50 years of war. Each region would remain sovereign within their own borders, but be held to those borders by equal pressure from all members of the League. The tasks put before the League by the gods rested on all of their cooperation and effort; the League would make sure that everyone contributed equally. To that end, the primary body of the Veridion League is the Senate.

Senate – The Senate’s primary responsibilities are to prepare and propose legislation, administer League finances, and issue decrees as necessary. The Senate doesn’t actually make laws, they propose them to the Triumvirate. The Triumvirate takes senatorial proposals, modifies them as necessary, and enacts them as law. In this way, the Senate controls what issues are presented for review, as the Triumvirate cannot enact laws that haven’t passed through the Senate.

As a formal group, the Senate is formed of two houses, based on how they are chosen to serve. The first half of the Senate sits in ivory chairs; they are the senatus niveus. Each region contributes twelve Senators who are chosen in any manner the native region sees fit. These men and women serve the League for life; they can only by removed if found guilty of misconduct, or if they resign. The regions are bound to this by the League charter and cannot force the removal of a Senator if the wind of home politics changes.

The seats of the second house of the Senate, the senatus atrus, are crafted of volcanic obsidian; there are 144 of these seats in the Senate chamber. Every two years, the gods decreed, a month long contest of Games was to be held on one of small islands off the shores of Veridios. Talents of all kinds are tested, and competitors from all regions are ranked. Each win in a contest represents one obsidian seat won for that region within the senatus atrus. If one of these Senators is removed for misconduct, resigns, or dies, the seat remains vacant until the next Games. The winner of a contest does not necessarily become the Senator for that seat. Instead it is the seat itself that is won for the region, and they appoint a Senator as they see fit.

The Senate is watched over by the Censor – an equite, usually chosen from the ranks of the magistrates by the Tribunal. The Censor is tasked with seeking out and exposing any corruption from within. If anything so vile is found, he may call a committee, supervised by the Praetor, to review the accusation. If found guilty, the offender is removed, Perian citizenship is revoked, and he is returned to his region in disgrace.

Triumvirate – Guiding the Senate in its duties is the Triumvirate, consisting of the Archon, Consul, and Praetor. The Archon is elected from the Senate body by the Senators and is their representative when it comes time to approve legislation. The Consul is the commander of the Veridion Army and is tasked with the safety and peace of all League regions while rebuilding of the World continues. The Praetor serves as high priest and ensures that fulfilling the will of the gods remains the focus of the League.

All three seats of the Triumvirate are selected by the Tribunal, ratified by the Senate, and serve for one year. Candidates for each of the positions must hold Veridion citizenship and cannot hold any one position for two consecutive years.

Tribunal – The Tribunal is comprised of twelve plebians, one from each region. They must hold Veridion citizenship and have resided in the city of Veridios for a minimum of twenty years. The Tribunal as a whole has veto power over any Senatorial decrees, but not laws, that affect the island of Veridios itself. Technically, they have authority over all magistrates assigned to the city itself.

Magistrates – The thousands of magistrates are the elected and appointed government officials that wield varying levels of executive, judicial, diplomatic, military, and religious power. These are the real movers and shakers of the bureaucratic system. They can be found throughout the League in Senatorial, Veridion, and regional capacities. The only way to begin to understand who outranks whom is to navigate a vast webwork of position, status, favors, patrons, and wealth.
