Eutalia

Physical Description: Eutalia appears to mortal eyes as though she had been carved from the purest marble: pale, flawless, and strikingly resolute. Though not devoid of emotion, it is the focused dedication to her goals, dreams, and followers that often presents a statuesque appearance. The goddess’ physical aspect bears pale honey-blonde tresses, piercing hazel eyes, and regal features. Most often she is garbed in a flowing chiton of olive green.

Symbol: Owl

Personality: Eutalia is at once as terrible and mighty as the roar of a tempest but also gentle and pure as a peaceful afternoon shower. The union of these two sides of her character, and their relative interdependance on each other, serve to reveal the complex relationship she engenders with her fellow gods and the world they have created. She is not fearful of conflict, but rather understands that conflict exists so it can be resolved, leading to prosperity and peace. She does not dwell on the battle itself, but instead she seeks the victory that will allow the establishment of a better life for all. In this manner, she is a patient goddess who is willing to allow suffering and loss in order to teach the valuable tenets of perseverance, responsibility, and protection.

Though not quick to anger, she can be swift and deadly in pursuing victory. Eutalia bestows both tribute and praise on those works truly accomplished for the sake of the people.

History: Eutalia’s first contribution to mankind was not a physical one; it is one that mankind cannot even fathom: she brought order to the gods themselves. When the rough, chaotic mass of the world had taken shape and cooled from the Creator’s fires, the gods nearly tore each other apart in their quest to create and develop the world. Fights raged among the heavens as pride, anger, and jealousy burned away at their golden hearts. It was Eutalia who conceived of a plan where they would share the burden of creation together rather than wasting energy building a world only to see it torn down by a rival.

Even though she devised this plan and was able to see its implementation, she did not take a position as leader or ruler over her brothers and sisters. Instead, in order to assure the plan’s success, the concept of voting was introduced with each diety having an equal say. Though a deity is considered sacrosanct within her own domain, on occasion the lines blur and blend one into another and arguments ensue. Once these disagreements begin affecting other domains of the world, the deities as a whole will step in to bring a resolution. It was Eutalia who pointed out that everyone’s best interest is served by keeping the world on course.

Servitor Creatures: The demeides serve mainly as Eutalia’s messengers. One of their primary duties is to convey the blessings of Eutalia in a highly visible manner, thereby further inspiring morale and the continued faith that the goddess does not abandon her people. Her six demigods utilze the demeides as well to carry out tasks that they cannot attend to first hand.

The demeides are uniformly androgynous creatures without physical form. While on the World, they inhabit statuary to deliver messages and carry out their duties.

Highborn: As Eutalia has remained an eternal virgin, she has never born children and her highborn (and patrician families) are unique cases. Each of the six Champions were among the original mortals handcrafted by the gods at the beginning of recorded time. These men and women were physically blessed by the goddess and granted specific powers, abilities, and deity-imposed responsibilities. They are: Marcellus (leadership), Flavius (warrior), Claudius (industry), Verulana (justice), Amyntus (education), and Bifrona (diplomacy).

All six have become demigods, though Marcellus’ fate is a terrible one. As Eutalia granted him immortality, Auxus struck Marcellus with a thunderbolt in vengeance for his lost son Callileon. Faced with either oblivion through death or endless life in agony, the demigod chose to fulfill his goddess’ plan and bear the burden of leadership for the world.
